Golden Birthday

A golden birthday is when your age matches the day of the month you were born. For me, it’s 18th July 2025, the day I turn 18 and step into adulthood. I never expected my 18th birthday to feel so different, so meaningful, or to change the way I usually celebrate. At first, I thought I might spend it alone, but it turned out to be far more special and memorable than I could have imagined.



This year, I celebrated my 18th birthday away from home for the first time and it was absolute hostel-level madness. With limited supplies and zero expectations, I had convinced myself it would be just another ordinary day. On the night of July 17th, I was helping some seniors with their club expo work. By the time they sent me back to my room, it was already 11:59 PM. I walked back thinking no one remembered my birthday and that I’d be spending it all alone.

But I couldn’t have been more wrong.

As I opened the door, I was greeted by five girls singing “Happy Birthday” while recording me. My room was decorated beautifully even with barely anything to work with, their effort was clear in every little detail. It wasn’t about how grand it looked, but how heartfelt it was. I’ve never been someone who cares much about gifts, but I deeply value effort and that night, I was genuinely touched.

Since cakes weren’t allowed in the hostel, my friends made a Choco Pie tower as a makeshift cake. I laughed and cried at the same time. We later tried making Maggi in a kettle, burned it, and clogged the sink. Was it a disaster? Yes, was it hard to clean? yes, would I do it again? absolutely .My golden birthday actually turned out to be golden and I will make sure I never forget it.

(PS: We added so much chilli powder that the Maggi turned into a full-blown spice challenge. The first bite had us wide-eyed, sweating, and instantly reaching for water like our tongues were on fire. I know that day, each one of us just sat there silently regretting every life choice, it was a disaster, but the kind you can’t stop laughing about.)

Industrial visit-Dakshin Chitra Museum

Our whole class went on an outing to Dakshin Chitra , a museum that shows the beautiful culture and traditions of Tamil Nadu. After almost two months of not being allowed to go out as first-semester students, this was our first trip together , and everyone was filled with excitement. Just the feeling of leaving the campus and being free for a day felt amazing. The bus was full of laughter, songs, and happy conversations  it was clear that we had all missed this sense of freedom. At the museum, we saw traditional houses , village scenes , and handmade crafts that showed how people lived in the past. Every exhibit had a story to tell about old customs, art, and architecture. Walking through the recreated villages and seeing the detailed carvings and decorations made us feel connected to Tamil Nadu’s rich history. Mall Visit(The chaos after the IV)

 After a quick one-hour dash through Dakshin Chitra , it was obvious: the real hype was for the mall . Honestly, who spends two months in college waiting to go out and gets excited about a museum? We were buzzing for our first mall trip together , and the energy was unmatched. The moment we arrived, it was chaos in the best way possible. We wandered through stores, debated over the tiniest purchases like our lives depended on it, grabbed snacks like true food enthusiasts, and basically lived our best carefree lives . Every little moment helping friends pick stuff, taking a million selfies, joking around felt like pure joy. Even the bus ride was a vibe.
